HANDS: Wash them often
ELBOW: Cough into it
FACE: Do not touch your face
SPACE: Keep a safe distance between you and all others
HOME stay home if you can
Let’s break that down
Hands, washing your hands is key but the real trick is to wash them long enough to kill the germs that are present on your hands.
The CDC recommends washing your hands for 20 seconds. This is about the time it takes to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice. We all have 20 seconds to spare to keep ourselves healthy.
Elbow, cough into your elbow or arm to eliminate the projection of germs in all directions.
This is a simple and effective habit that everyone should exercise always not just during a pandemic.
Face, never touch your face.
The disease is now known to enter through your eyes, nose, and mouth. Try to become aware of how often you touch your face and prevent further face touching.
Space, keep at least a six foot distance between you and all others who are not in your household.
COVID-19 transfers on different materials such as plastic, cardboard, metal, and skin to skin contact. If a person is infected something as simple as them talking or exhaling exposes tiny droplets onto surrounding surfaces, if another person comes into contact with the droplet, they will soon become infected.
Possibly the most important piece of the 5-step prevention process is Home.
Stay home, protect yourself, your loved ones, and the rest of the population. Keep away from all others and only leave the house when necessary.
