How to Keep your Upholstered Furniture Clean

It is important to regularly clean your upholstered furniture to ensure that dust and

Microscopic bugs do not (form/live). We have all been exposed to a sick family member or work colleague. When we are around people who are sick we typically wipe down all of the hard surfaces in their vicinity but we commonly forget to clean the furniture. Many common strains of bacteria can live on surfaces for upwards of 24 hours.

These germs are now in your upholstery. The question you may now have is how do I clean my upholstered furniture?

There are multiple methods to clean these surfaces without causing any damage. We recommend first vacuuming your upholstered furniture to get rid of any debris that may be on the surface. Make sure you use a vacuum brush with nonabrasive bristles.

Do you have the little fuzz balls all over your upholstered furniture? If so *TIP* - use a shower razor and it will remove them ALL!!

Vacuuming your furniture regularly will ensure that the microbes do not seep deep into the fabric. We don’t recommend washing your upholstery at the first sign of a blemish. Washing

can shrink the fabric and you risk the covers no longer fitting on your cushions.

There are spray upholstery cleaners that allow you to clean and disinfect the fabric without taking it off of the cushion. If you are looking for a more thorough cleaning, we recommend hiring a professional upholstery cleaning service.

The most effective way to keep your living space germ free is to clean the furniture regularly at home and once a year get your upholstery professionally cleaned. The cleaning service will ensure that all bacteria and viruses are gone. Make sure to research the cleaning products or the cleaning service before you use them!
